Charting the Path to Recovery

Support Through Therapy Groups

Chemical Dependency Groups
Substance dependency and addiction topics are offered by Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors covering a wide range of topics including triggers, the effects of psychoactive/addictive drugs on the body and the brain, signs and symptoms of drug use, risks of using drugs, trauma and drug use, the effects of substance abuse on the individual and the family and relapse prevention counseling.

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are offered for patients as part of the treatment continuum. These programs offer a safe, structured environment while enabling the patient to return home at night and maintain important family and community relationships. The Partial hospitalization program may be appropriate for patients making the transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment or as a program alternative for patients who do not present any danger to themselves or others but need a structured treatment plan and environment. Family and support person involvement is a crucial part of the treatment process since the patient returns home each night it is important that family members and support persons are involved in the therapeutic process and attend family programming on a weekly basis.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) provide time limited, multidisciplinary, multimodal structured treatment in an outpatient setting, Such programs are less intensive than a partial hospital program but significantly more intensive than outpatient psychotherapy and medication management. (This level of care does not include medical oversight or medication evaluation/management).

Our Supportive Outpatient Program (SOP) is designed to provide a structured treatment program for those who prefer a more supportive rather than intensive approach in helping our patients deal with substance abuse and chemical dependency. The SOP is also helpful for those who have successfully gone through the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and want continued support through their sobriety in a structured environment.

This program is required by the Texas court system and focuses on individuals who have been cited with a DWI multiple times. It was designed to educate participants about their underlying chemical dependency and the risks associated with it. It provides an intensive curriculum over the course of 7.5 weeks to encourage the participant to start their path to recovery and prevent future offenses.

Assessment of Chemical Dependency

Chemical dependency is one of the most common reasons for someone seeking drug rehabilitation at a specialized facility. It can be described as continued drug abuse, even though several problems have already arisen as a result of this abuse. If not addressed, this can quickly turn into a drug addiction. Some commonly abused drugs and substances include alcohol, steroids, marijuana, prescription opioids, heroin, cocaine, and even nicotine.

The Family’s Role in Recovery

Like many mental health professionals, the Sacred Oak Medical Center team views substance abuse disorders as a family disease and considers family interaction a crucial component of any treatment program’s success. People who struggle with drug addiction often suffer from shame and guilt and their family members are often hurt, angry, and resentful. Our family sessions facilitate the healing process and our patients are encouraged to have their relatives participate in family group sessions.
